Plug the ethernet cable into any free port on your internet router, and the other end into the box.
That's it. A light turns green in about a minute.

You don't need to install anything, remember a password, or change any of your settings. Your own internet, wifi and TV keep working exactly as they do now. If you ever unplug it, nothing on your side breaks — the person abroad just can't connect until it's back on.

OorNest needs a home in India

OorNest works by plugging into a home internet connection in India — usually a parent's, a sibling's or a close friend's. If you have that, you're set.

If you don't have anyone in India who can host it yet, OorNest isn't the right fit today. Leave us your email and we'll tell you when we have an answer for you — we're working on one.

Is this a VPN?

No — and the difference matters. A VPN routes you through a shared datacentre address. OorNest routes you through your family's own home connection in India. See the comparison above.

Will it work with my bank?

It works the way your family's home connection works. If a site works from their living room, it works through OorNest. We can't promise anything about a specific provider's own rules — which is exactly why you get 14 days to check with your own accounts.

Do I need someone in India?

Yes. Someone whose home internet the device plugs into — a parent, sibling or close friend.

Is it legal?

Connecting to your own family's home internet is ordinary use of a home connection. What you do through it is your responsibility, under the rules that apply where you are. Full terms will be published with checkout.

How hard is it for my family?

Two cables, about two minutes, no app and no settings on their side.

What if they unplug it?

Nothing breaks on their end. You just can't connect until it's plugged back in. We'll email you if the device goes offline.

What if their internet or power goes down?

Your connection is down until theirs is back. We're honest about this — it's the trade for having a real home connection rather than a datacentre.

What if they change their router or move house?

It works with any home internet with a spare ethernet port. Move it and plug it in again.

What's the refund policy?

14 days, no questions, provided the device comes back in as-new working condition. We pay the return shipping.

What isn't covered by the warranty?

Damage from voltage spikes or power supply problems. Indian mains being what it is, we recommend a surge protector and we'll point you at one.

The straight version

OorNest connects you to your own family's home internet. That's an ordinary use of a home broadband connection — the same as if you were in the house.

What you do with that connection is up to you, and it stays your responsibility. We ask that you follow the rules that apply where you are and where you're connecting to. We build and run the technology; we don't monitor what you do with it, and we're not a party to your dealings with your bank, your streaming service or anyone else.

Some services have their own terms about where you sign in from. Those are between you and them, and worth a look if it matters to you.
